Upper School

"Older pupils benefit from an impressive breadth of options. These include GCSE courses and a range of vocational options, or a mix of both if appropriate" Ofsted 2022

Upper School is an exciting time for all students as they prepare for examinations and transition to Post 16.  Students choose option subjects to complement their core studies in English, Maths, Science, Life Skills, PE and Self Science and are supported to prepare for the next stage of their education through College Preparation lessons.

Optional subjects range from academic subjects including GCSE History and Science, to vocational courses such as Cookery, Music, Sport and Construction.  Upper School students have access to specialist teaching facilities in Creative Crafts, Art & Design and Science as well as a professional kitchen and a Learning Lodge. The students also have access to their own area within the school, promoting independence and personal responsibility. In Upper School, we work with students to develop and identify their talents and skills and we strive to create bespoke learning programmes for our students so that they are able to both engage and flourish in preparation for their next steps.

Our Upper School students gain qualifications that are essential for their progression and are relevant to their future aspirations. We are proud of the successes our students achieve and of their incredible learning journey throughout Upper School. At West Heath we promote and encourage independent learning and develop resilience so students are prepared and ready to tackle the challenges and rigour of 6th Form study.
