KEY STAGE 3
The transition into a secondary environment is often a challenging time for our students. The changes between primary and secondary often cause a level of anxiety which leads to behaviours that mainstream settings are unable to manage. At West Heath, KS3 is a nurturing environment, with small class sizes and a flexible approach; we are able to work with young people on managing the anxieties and the causes behind behaviour, helping them engage in their academic and personal development.

KEY STAGE 4
There is a shift in focus in KS4. Although understanding the needs of the individual exists, and therapies and support remain in place; there is a drive and focus toward attainment, with students being directed toward the importance of maximising grades in all subject areas. The structure of support still exists, yet there is a drive to ensure that education and achievement is of paramount importance. Strategies are focused toward removing barriers to education within our school setting, with students following the National Curriculum and a broad range of subjects to extend the variety within the learning environment.
YEAR 10 & 11 : MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE 10 STUDENTS

KEY STAGE 5
The main objective in KS5 is to ensure a meaningful programme of study and to support students in their transition to mainstream education and independence. There is a varied approach in KS5 with students studying in a variety of different settings with differing levels of support. We work with a number of different college partners (Mid Kent, West Kent and Hadlow colleges) sending our staff to their learning environments to support students in meeting the challenges of a FE environment. We also work with specialist colleges in Hair and Beauty (Bromley) and Jewellery making (Hatton Garden), where our students are able to focus on their chosen career with less of an impact from a larger multidisciplinary college environment. For some students mainstream environments are unable to meet their level of need, and we offer a number of Btec and A level courses on the school site, enabling them to access continued education.
